John 19:16-37

For the last several months we have been walking through the life and teachings of Jesus as told to us by someone who walked with Him, the Apostle John. We are coming to the close of Jesus’ life and earthly ministry.

This week we discussed the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In John 19:16-37, we see the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy as a perfect Savior was condemned to death on a cross. In the midst of Jesus’ last few moments atop Golgotha, a criminal (also being crucified) recognized his guilt and said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom.” Jesus responds with immediate forgiveness and grace by saying, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” What an incredible story of grace for the undeserving! Although this criminal had lead a life of thievery, in his last moments he chose to believe that Jesus was indeed the Son of God. In turn, his destiny was eternally redirected. In our striving to be like Jesus, who in your life needs to know you have graciously forgiven them? What sin or burden are you holding onto that’s keeping yourself from experiencing the grace found in Jesus Christ?

If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
