But God, I deserve…
We continued our series on the Life of Jonah this week. Jonah had a heart that was bent toward entitlement. He felt that if anyone deserved God’s grace it was certainly a Jew and not someone from Nineveh – which is why he ran away from God’s command to go and call Nineveh to repentance. Zach Farrar talked to us about how our own sense of entitlement is just as insidious, and not really all that different from Jonah’s. The reality is that, outside of the sacrifice of Jesus, what we are entitled to in the presence of God is His justice and wrath.
Zach’s main point was that ‘while we each have earned cosmic, divine wrath for our sin, God sovereignly reaches out to us in grace.’ His grace came in the form of His Son, Jesus and the offer of grace is available today. As Christians, understanding that we have earned nothing except wrath levels the playing field when we interact with others and dispense the same grace we have been given as followers of Jesus to them.
Have you received the grace of God through Jesus? If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
